Olu of Warri Anniversary to Highlight Culture, Tourism and Unity

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, will mark the fifth anniversary of his coronation with a 10 day programme celebrating Itsekiri culture, unity, tourism and innovation.

The anniversary will run from August 14 to August 23, 2026.

Organisers said activities would include royal ceremonies, cultural exhibitions, sporting events, community homage and programmes involving Itsekiri people at home and abroad.

Anniversary Oversight Committee Chairman Oma Eyewuoma said the celebration was designed as a global homecoming for sons and daughters of Warri Kingdom.

Planned activities include cultural displays, exhibitions of family heirlooms, a Royal Boat Regatta, bike and scooter events, an Itsekiri language competition for children and football matches.

The Federal Ministry responsible for culture and tourism is also working with the kingdom on initiatives intended to promote international tourism, investment and youth development.

Organisers said the monarch’s wider vision included peace, innovation and stronger global engagement.

The Iwere Innovation Hub is one of the initiatives being promoted to expand digital literacy, software development and entrepreneurship among young people.

The committee said the anniversary would also use sporting events involving neighbouring communities to strengthen peaceful relations.

High profile visitors from Nigeria and abroad are expected during the programme.

Organisers described the anniversary as both a royal celebration and an opportunity to promote the cultural identity and economic potential of Warri Kingdom.
