Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed the development of a permanent solution to the washed-out section of the East-West Road at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The directive followed an inspection visit by the governor to the damaged section of the highway, which collapsed after nearly six consecutive days of heavy rainfall.
Governor Oborevwori said the immediate priority was to restore traffic flow while technical work commenced on a lasting solution to prevent future occurrences.
He commended Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for its rapid response and directed the company to undertake detailed technical studies to determine the most appropriate intervention.
According to the governor, the state government is prepared to finance the remedial works, stressing that any permanent solution must effectively handle the large volume of water flowing through the area.
Julius Berger has already commenced surveys and hydraulic assessments to determine whether a mini-bridge or a multi-cell culvert would provide the best long-term solution.
Meanwhile, emergency repairs are ongoing, with the construction firm assuring motorists that both lanes of the highway will be reopened in the coming days.
