Nigerian Afro-house singer Niniola Apata has spoken candidly about the pain of losing her husband, businessman and music executive Michael Ndika, saying nothing could have prepared her for the heartbreaking reality of becoming a young widow.
The singer shared the emotional reflection in an Instagram post on Sunday as she marked two months since Ndika’s sudden passing.
Looking back on the difficult journey, Niniola revealed that she had initially planned to record a video but found herself overwhelmed by emotions.
“Today makes it two months since my husband, business manager and best friend, Michael, was very suddenly and unexpectedly taken from me and truly, from us,” she wrote.
The award-winning artiste said that although she experienced the loss of her father at a young age, it did little to prepare her for the grief of losing her life partner.
“Even though I lost my dad at quite an early age, nothing ever prepared me for the reality of becoming a young widow. It has been hard. It has been exceedingly difficult,” she said.
‘Some Days Are Painfully Indescribable’
Niniola described grief as an unpredictable journey, explaining that while some days have been bearable, others have left her struggling to cope with the emotional weight of her loss.
“Some days are good; some days are just painfully indescribable. What do I do with myself? Where do I start from? So many things left undone and unsaid. So many emotions I am unable to put into words,” she wrote.
Despite the overwhelming pain, the singer said her faith has remained her source of strength, even during moments when she questioned God’s plan.
Singer Appreciates Support from Fans
Niniola also expressed heartfelt appreciation to her family, friends, fans, colleagues, media organisations and well-wishers for their unwavering support since her husband’s death.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to you all for your outpouring of love, your kind words, prayers, thoughtful messages and posts. I do not know how I will ever repay each and every one of you, but please know that I am truly and sincerely grateful,” she said.
She prayed that those who have stood by her during the difficult period would never experience a similar loss.
Fans Concerned Over Singer’s Appearance
The emotional tribute comes weeks after Niniola made her first public appearance since announcing her husband’s death, sparking concern among fans.
Videos from the outing circulated on social media, with many followers commenting on her noticeable weight loss and attributing it to the emotional impact of her bereavement.
The singer announced Ndika’s death in May through a series of emotional posts on her Instagram Story, writing, “God took him,” before later confirming, “My husband died.”
Michael Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on Afro-house and contemporary African music. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been made public.
