Nigeria and China have held high-level talks focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in electricity, infrastructure, and industrial development, with Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership Director-General Joseph Tegbe and Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria H.E. Yu Dunhai pledging to strengthen the implementation of agreements reached at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit in Beijing.
The strategic meeting in Abuja centered on advancing collaboration under the Nigeria-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and identifying practical areas where cooperation could accelerate Nigeria’s economic transformation and modernization agenda.
Ambassador Yu congratulated Tegbe on his appointment and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development aspirations, saying enhanced cooperation in power generation, electricity infrastructure, and broader development projects was critical to delivering tangible benefits to citizens of both countries and to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Tegbe described China as one of Nigeria’s most important development partners and identified power infrastructure, manufacturing, and modern agriculture as priority areas where expanded cooperation could unlock economic opportunities, create jobs, and improve living standards. He said stronger Nigeria-China ties would not only support the country’s development objectives but also contribute to broader efforts aimed at advancing modernization and sustainable development across the African continent.
The meeting came amid renewed Nigerian government efforts to attract strategic investments and partnerships to address infrastructure deficits, boost electricity supply, and accelerate industrial growth as part of its wider economic reform program.
