Lagos State Deputy Governor and 2027 APC governorship candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has appointed former Minister of State for Defence Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as Director-General of his campaign organization, a move widely interpreted as a strategic effort to strengthen his campaign structure and consolidate support across key political blocs within the ruling party.

Obanikoro, a former Lagos governorship candidate and influential figure in Lagos politics, is expected to lead the coordination of Hamzat’s statewide campaign activities, stakeholder engagements, and grassroots mobilization efforts. The announcement came weeks after Hamzat emerged as the APC governorship candidate for 2027 following the party’s Lagos primary election.

Among the party leaders present during the announcement were Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, House of Representatives member James Faleke, and Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, reflecting broad support from the Lagos APC establishment including President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and members of the Governance Advisory Council.Political observers said Obanikoro’s appointment could enhance Hamzat’s outreach across diverse political constituencies given the former minister’s extensive experience in Lagos politics and his network across party lines.
