NGX Seeks Strategic Partnership with Hong Kong Exchange

Nigerian Exchange Group has proposed a strategic partnership with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing as part of efforts to strengthen financial links between Africa and Asia.

NGX Group Chairman Umaru Kwairanga presented the proposal during discussions with officials of the Hong Kong exchange.

He said both institutions shared an interest in building market infrastructure that supports investment, innovation and efficient capital allocation.

Kwairanga noted that modern exchanges had evolved beyond platforms for buying and selling securities and now played wider roles in technology, sustainable finance and international capital connectivity.

The proposed areas of cooperation include institutional partnerships, market development, technology, sustainable finance and investment promotion.

NGX said a formal framework could include annual executive meetings, technical working groups and knowledge exchange programmes.

Potential market initiatives could cover cross border listings, depositary receipts, exchange traded funds and improved access for international investors.

NGX also expressed interest in learning from Hong Kong’s experience in artificial intelligence, market surveillance, data commercialisation, digital infrastructure and product development.

Sustainable finance opportunities identified include green finance, climate reporting, transition finance and carbon markets.

The Nigerian exchange also proposed staff training, technical secondments, joint research and investment forums.

NGX said stronger cooperation could create new channels for capital between African and Asian markets.
