JALINGO – No fewer than 300 households displaced by recent crises in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have received relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA).
The distribution exercise, held on Sunday, benefited families from the Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar and Sufa communities.
Speaking during the exercise, the representative of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Mr. Malut Hussain, expressed sympathy to the affected families and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of disasters and communal conflicts across Nigeria.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the relief items while promoting peaceful coexistence to prevent a recurrence of violence in their communities.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration at TSEMA, Sani Maisukwati, who represented the agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Echuseh Audu, described the intervention as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges across the country.
Maisukwati commended NEMA for its sustained partnership with the Taraba State Government in providing assistance to communities affected by conflict and other emergencies.
According to him, the relief effort aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable residents, particularly those displaced by insecurity.
The distributed items included bags of rice and maize, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, guinea brocade, wax prints and sleeping mats.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to NEMA, TSEMA and the Taraba State Government for the continued humanitarian support.
One of the beneficiaries, Veronica Iortom from Peva-Chanchanji, said the latest intervention marked the fourth time the affected communities had received relief materials following attacks by armed assailants.
“We want to thank Governor Agbu Kefas and the humanitarian agencies for these relief materials. This is the fourth time we are receiving relief supplies from the government after the attacks on our communities.
“This shows that the government is aware of the insecurity in our area. We appeal to the authorities to deploy more security personnel to flush out the criminals and secure our communities so we can safely return to our farms,” she said.
The relief distribution forms part of ongoing efforts by federal and state authorities to cushion the impact of displacement and provide humanitarian assistance to victims of violence in Taraba State.
