Mbah Highlights Security Gains, Roads, Schools and Aviation in Enugu Development Scorecard

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has identified improvements in security, road infrastructure, aviation, education and healthcare as major achievements of his administration, while acknowledging that some communities are still waiting to experience the benefits of ongoing projects.

Presenting his administration’s performance report at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, the governor said the restoration of normal business activities on Mondays had helped revive economic life after prolonged disruptions associated with sit-at-home restrictions.

Mbah recalled a period when traders lost income, schools were disrupted and residents feared traveling at the beginning of the working week. He argued that the return of regular commercial activities had provided an important foundation for economic recovery.

On transportation, the governor said road projects and investments in buses and terminals were intended to improve movement, reduce travel costs and connect producers with markets. He maintained that infrastructure should be assessed by its impact on households and businesses rather than construction figures alone.

He also reported an increase in incoming flights to Enugu from about two daily when he assumed office to more than 15 in a recent administration review. According to him, Enugu Air and related aviation initiatives are designed to improve domestic and international connectivity.

In education, Mbah pointed to the administration’s plan for 260 Smart Green Schools across the state, saying children in rural communities should have access to modern learning facilities. He also outlined efforts to strengthen primary healthcare, electricity supply, agricultural processing, tourism and industrial development.

The governor reiterated his ambition to expand Enugu’s economy from an estimated $4.4 billion to at least $30 billion within eight years. Those figures and the administration’s project completion claims were presented as government assessments and targets, rather than independently audited outcomes.

Acknowledging delays and uneven access to services, Mbah said his government would focus on completing projects and extending their benefits to underserved communities. He urged residents to participate in governance and demand accountability.

Godfrey Okoye University Vice Chancellor, Professor Christian Anieke, commended the governor for returning to the institution where he had presented his manifesto before the 2023 election to account for his performance.
