Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that all levels of government are working collaboratively to secure the safe return of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday after meeting with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, who staged a protest at the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.
Speaking after receiving the delegation, Makinde said he listened to the concerns raised by the groups and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted victims.
According to the governor, the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and relevant local authorities are coordinating efforts to secure the release of the children and teachers kidnapped during the attack in Oriire LGA.
He stressed that the safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority for his administration and pledged continued engagement with stakeholders on security matters.
Makinde also assured the protesters that his government remains open to constructive feedback and suggestions aimed at strengthening security across the state.
The protest by the student, labour and teachers’ groups comes amid growing public concern over the abduction, which has triggered calls for intensified rescue efforts and improved security around schools and rural communities in Oyo State.
