Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Oriire abduction, with a mandate to establish the facts, identify institutional and operational shortcomings, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Makinde said the commission was constituted to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the incident, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the safety of schools and communities across the state.
According to the governor, the commission is expected to determine the facts surrounding the abduction, identify any lapses in the response of relevant institutions and security agencies, and propose practical recommendations to improve security and safeguard lives.
“The assignment of this Commission is to establish the facts, identify any institutional or operational lapses, recommend measures that will strengthen the protection of our schools and communities, and help ensure that such a tragedy never happens again,” Makinde said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the members of the panel for accepting the responsibility, describing their assignment as crucial to enhancing public safety and restoring confidence in the state’s security architecture.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry is chaired by Hon. Justice M. A. O. Owoade (JCA, Rtd.) and comprises Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Mrs. Ayo Obe, AIG Ngozi Onadeko (Rtd.), Barr. Abimbola Orogade, Maj. Gen. S. N. Muazu (Rtd.), and Mr. Folorinsho Osunrayi, a retired Director of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Barr. (Mrs.) Olamide Sandra Tella will serve as the Secretary to the Commission.
The panel is expected to submit recommendations that will assist the Oyo State Government in strengthening security measures and preventing future incidents of school-related abductions and other security breaches.
