The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced an emergency convening of the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, days after the Supreme Court nullified the Ibadan national convention where Tanimu Turaki emerged as national chairman, stripping him and all other officers produced by that convention of any legal standing.
The notice, signed by NEC members whose names were not indicated, cited a resolution by two-thirds of NEC members in accordance with Section 31 of the PDP Constitution, and stated that the commission had been duly notified. The meeting was fixed for Monday, May 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
The notice specified that attendance was strictly limited to statutory NEC members, including PDP state governors, National Assembly members of the PDP caucus, members of the Board of Trustees, state chairmen, national ex-officio members, former National Working Committee members, former governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, and other designated stakeholders.
The apex court’s unanimous ruling, delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, held that the Court of Appeal had acted outside its jurisdiction by making an order that no party had sought, and subsequently vacated that order. The ruling effectively affirmed the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee as the legally recognized leadership of the party and the one acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
