Makinde Challenges Tinubu’s Recovery Claims, Says Reserves Do Not Feed Families

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s account of Nigeria’s economic recovery, arguing that improvements in foreign reserves mean little unless they translate into affordable food, jobs and better living conditions.

In a video message to the launch of the Makinde and Daura for Better Nigeria movement in Lagos, Makinde compared the situation to a household with substantial savings whose members remain hungry.

The governor, described by organisers as the Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, called for a reset of economic management, security, education and the political system. He also advocated federalism and multiparty democracy. The supplied report did not include independent documentation of the party nomination or alliance arrangements.

Campaign officials said the movement would focus on substantive policy issues rather than spectacle. They cited unemployment, insecurity, rising fuel costs and pressure on household incomes as central concerns.

At the event, Lagos APM governorship candidate Adelaja Adeoye promised inclusive government and urged voters to reject vote-buying. Party representatives also declared support for the Makinde–Daura ticket and other APM candidates.

Makinde’s remarks add to an election debate over the difference between improvements in macroeconomic indicators and the daily economic experience of ordinary Nigerians.
