Ibrahima Konaté will leave Liverpool when his contract expires next month after the club confirmed on Sunday that no agreement had been reached over a new deal.
The France international had expressed optimism last month that a renewal could be finalised with the Premier League side, but negotiations ultimately broke down, ending his five-year stay at Anfield.
“Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konaté is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer,” the club said in a statement. “Konaté will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.”
Konaté becomes the third high-profile player to leave Liverpool this season on a free transfer, following the exits of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
During his time at the club, the 27-year-old defender was part of the squad that won the Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, as well as lifting two League Cups and the FA Cup.
However, Liverpool endured a difficult campaign this term, with Konaté’s form dipping significantly as the team struggled for consistency.
Manager Arne Slot was dismissed on Saturday after the Reds finished fifth in the Premier League, 25 points behind champions Arsenal.
The Paris-born defender has been linked with a move to European champions Paris Saint-Germain, while Liverpool may now be forced back into the transfer market to strengthen their defence despite the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet in a £60 million move from Rennes.
