Kano Governor Condemns Public Misconduct

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has publicly distanced himself, his administration, and the people of Kano from the conduct of certain youths who displayed underwear during the recent official visit of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing the behaviour as a disturbing departure from the core values of Kano and a direct violation of Islamic teachings on modesty and respect for authority.

The governor made the condemnation at the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace held at the Government House, an occasion that brought together 4,444 Quranic reciters to seek divine intervention for the stability and prosperity of Kano and Nigeria. He used the platform to address the incident directly, expressing disappointment that the state’s reputation for hospitality and religious devotion had been tarnished by the actions of a small group of youths.

Yusuf said he had personally invited the perpetrators to meet with him and issued a firm warning against any future conduct that could bring the name of Kano State into disrepute. He also directed pointed criticism at politicians who he accused of deliberately manipulating and exploiting youth culture for cheap political gains, warning that such behaviour represented a form of moral corruption that his administration would not condone.

“Our youths should be symbols of hope and development, not tools for mockery or moral decadence. I urge my fellow politicians to lead by example, cease the culture of insults, and focus on Kano First Agenda rather than inciting our children toward indecency,” the governor said.

He called on those responsible to seek forgiveness from God and to formally apologise to the people of Kano State for the embarrassment caused. He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure that Kano remained a bastion of discipline, hospitality, and religious devotion, and pledged a renewed commitment to youth mentorship and the active preservation of the state’s rich cultural heritage.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, represented at the event by Aliyu Harazumi, assured those gathered that the emirate would continue organising Quranic recitation programmes aimed at sustaining peace and moral order within the state.
