The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, expressing concern over delays in the delivery of judgment by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in a pending internal party dispute.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party warned that the prolonged wait for a ruling could cause “irreparable harm” to its operations, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.
According to the ADC, the unresolved legal battle has continued to create uncertainty within its leadership structure, affecting decision-making processes and undermining confidence among members and stakeholders.
The party urged the apex court to expedite proceedings and deliver judgment in the interest of justice, stressing that timely resolution of political disputes is critical to maintaining stability within Nigeria’s democratic system.
“The continued delay in resolving this matter poses a serious threat to the cohesion and functionality of our party. We respectfully urge the Chief Justice to intervene administratively to ensure that the case is given the attention it deserves,” the statement said.
The ADC further noted that political parties play a vital role in democratic governance, warning that unresolved disputes could weaken institutional credibility and disrupt preparations for electoral contests.
While reaffirming its respect for the judiciary, the party emphasised the need for swift adjudication, adding that justice delayed could amount to justice denied.
As of the time of filing this report, the Supreme Court has not issued an official response to the petition.
