The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has called for renewed national commitment toward raising disciplined, responsible, and resilient boys capable of contributing positively to Nigeria’s development and security.
Air Marshal Aneke made the call as Nigeria joined the global community to commemorate the 2026 International Day of the Boy Child.
Speaking in commemoration of the event themed, “Flourish & Thrive: Investing in Boys for Stronger Families and Communities,” the air chief stressed the importance of mentorship, positive masculinity, emotional support, and value-driven upbringing for boys.
He noted that Nigerian youths currently face increasing challenges, including crime, substance abuse, cybercrime, violent extremism, and negative peer pressure.
According to him, initiatives promoting conversations around boys’ mental health and integrity are essential in shaping morally grounded and confident young men.
The Chief of the Air Staff stated that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to youth development through its educational institutions, including NAF Secondary Schools and the Military School, which he said continue to promote academic excellence, leadership training, discipline, and character development.
Aneke also highlighted ongoing youth empowerment programmes introduced under his leadership, focusing on information technology, vocational training, entrepreneurship, aviation-related skills, and heavy equipment operations.
He explained that the programmes are designed to promote self-reliance among young people and reduce their vulnerability to criminal activities and extremist influences.
The air chief urged Nigerian boys to embrace discipline, patriotism, integrity, and hard work while rejecting all forms of anti-social behaviour.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to initiatives aimed at empowering youths and strengthening families, communities, and national security.
