The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality, transparency and electoral integrity as Nigeria enters the final 100 days before the 2027 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance during a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
According to the INEC chairman, the commission has moved from planning to implementation, with election materials already in production, technology systems undergoing quality assurance testing, and personnel training progressing nationwide.
“As we begin this 100-day sprint to the 2027 General Election, we reassure the nation and the international community of our total commitment to neutrality, operational excellence and the sacred integrity of the ballot box,” Amupitan said.
He disclosed that the commission had completed several key milestones, including voter registration, finalisation of the voter register and candidate nomination processes.
INEC also announced that the National Register of Voters has risen to 103 million following the registration of 10,772,421 new voters during the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
The register will be displayed for public scrutiny between October 9 and October 15, while the distribution of Phase One Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) begins on October 9, 2026.
Amupitan added that the commission had advanced procurement and deployment of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and other election materials ahead of the polls.
He called for stronger collaboration among INEC, the media, civil society organisations and political stakeholders to combat misinformation and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
