INEC Extends Deadline for Submission of Candidates for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of candidates’ lists by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission announced that the deadline, initially scheduled to expire on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

INEC said the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

According to the Commission, the extension reflects its commitment to promoting inclusiveness in the electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.

“The decision to extend was based on an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, on behalf of political parties who were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline,” the statement said.

INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional time to complete the submission process, stressing that all required details must be uploaded before the new deadline expires.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
