Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) to provide details of the N11.2 trillion recorded as receivables from the Federation in the company’s latest financial statements.
In a statement issued by his Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku demanded greater transparency regarding expenditures linked to oil and gas asset protection, including pipeline surveillance contracts.
“Nigerians deserve to know how much of this enormous claim went to guarding pipelines, who received the money and what protection it bought,” Atiku said.
The former presidential candidate questioned the relationship between the reported receivables and security expenditure, arguing that citizens have a right to know how public resources are being utilised.
He also called for the publication of contracts, procurement records, payment details and performance outcomes relating to major government projects and security-related engagements in the oil sector.
Atiku further urged the administration to disclose whether contractors benefiting from government projects have provided financial or logistical support for political activities connected to the 2027 elections.
The former vice president maintained that transparency and accountability remain essential as Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship, rising living costs and security concerns.
