IGP Disu Calls for Stronger Data Management to Boost Intelligence-Led Policing

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called on police investigators and heads of investigative units across the country to prioritise accurate collection and management of suspects’ information as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and modernise criminal investigations in Nigeria.

Disu made the call on Thursday during the opening of a one-day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Nigeria Police Force’s Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The workshop focused on improving the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, a national initiative designed to enhance crime analysis, intelligence gathering, evidence-based investigations and inter-agency collaboration.

The Inspector-General said modern policing increasingly depends on timely, accurate and actionable data, stressing that effective law enforcement can no longer rely solely on traditional investigative methods.

He described the Crime and Incident Database Centre as a critical national policing asset capable of improving investigative efficiency, tracking criminal patterns, identifying repeat offenders, linking related crimes across jurisdictions and supporting strategic decision-making.

Reaffirming his commitment to police reform and digital transformation, Disu urged all Commands and Formations to ensure strict compliance with established procedures for capturing suspects’ information.

He also encouraged participants at the workshop to actively engage with the training and contribute practical solutions that would improve operational effectiveness and strengthen the Force’s crime management systems.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the Inspector-General emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to leveraging technology, innovation and intelligence-led strategies to improve service delivery and enhance public safety.

The Police leadership said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to build a more professional, accountable and citizen-focused policing system across the country.
