The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has prohibited police personnel from engaging in unauthorized social media activities, warning that such conduct undermines the integrity, professionalism and public image of the Force.
The directive follows growing concern over serving officers creating videos, conducting live broadcasts and posting content while in uniform without official approval. In a statement by Force PRO Aniete Iniedu, the IGP stressed that social media use by officers must be guided by existing laws and the Force Social Media Policy.
Personnel are barred from sharing unauthorized content in uniform, commenting publicly on official matters, disclosing sensitive operational information, or using their police status for personal promotion, entertainment or commercial purposes.
Commissioners, heads of departments and supervisory officers were directed to enforce compliance and would be held accountable for failures, while the Force Intelligence Department and Professional Standards Department were tasked with intensifying monitoring of online activity.
