House Uncovers 29 Allegedly Forged Documents Linked to Purported Council Director

The House of Representatives says it has uncovered 29 documents suspected to have been forged and linked to Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew, who presented himself as Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

The House has directed the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce Adeyemi before its investigative committee within 48 hours.

He is expected to appear before the committee by noon on Wednesday.

Chairman of the House committee investigating the inclusion of the purported council in the 2026 Appropriation Act, Yusuf Gagdi, issued the directive during a hearing in Abuja.

Gagdi also called on the Accountant General of the Federation, Head of the Civil Service and other authorities to approve the appearance of 12 officials mentioned in a security report submitted to the committee.

He said their testimonies would help the committee verify documents and protect the reputation of people and institutions mentioned during the investigation.

The committee maintained that its work would not interfere with investigations being conducted by security agencies.

Gagdi said the legislative inquiry was intended to complement those investigations and establish the circumstances surrounding the council’s status and operations.

The committee also directed the Accountant General to produce two officials who conducted an assessment of the purported council.

According to Gagdi, the committee has obtained statements for bank accounts opened for the council by the Central Bank of Nigeria following authorization from the Accountant General’s office.

He alleged that Adeyemi had taken possession of a letter of authentication that was originally addressed to the Presidency.

The committee said Adeyemi’s appearance was necessary to clarify unresolved issues before the House concludes its investigation and submits recommendations.
