The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has said a recent letter from former President Olusegun Obasanjo criticizing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar suggests Obasanjo is covertly working to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
In the letter, addressed to former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, Obasanjo alleged that Atiku had financially mobilized the late former House Speaker Ghali Naabba to pursue his impeachment during Obasanjo’s presidency, an allegation Atiku dismissed in his own response, accusing Obasanjo of resentment over his role in blocking a past third term bid. Forum president Akin Malaolu said Obasanjo’s decision to invoke Naabba, who is deceased and unable to respond, reflects a deliberate attack aimed at opposition parties more broadly, arguing that Obasanjo’s professed support for other opposition figures serves as cover for his actual alignment with the ruling party.
