Government Releases N32.88 Billion Healthcare Fund for Second Quarter

The federal government has approved N32.88 billion under its second quarter 2026 Basic Health Care Provision Fund disbursement to keep healthcare services running nationwide.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate, who conveyed the approval at the fifth Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting in Abuja, said the committee had now released a cumulative N290 billion under the initiative.

The meeting also approved arrangements to bring private sector actors into the oversight framework to broaden stakeholder participation, and directed the committee’s secretariat to write to all 36 states reminding them of their counterpart funding and equity fund obligations.

Pate reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening health sector governance, deepening accountability and accelerating reforms towards universal health coverage, stressing the need for efficient use of public health resources and equitable, affordable care for all Nigerians.

Deliberations covered implementation updates from the fund’s gateways and technical working groups, with development partners urging better alignment, evidence based decisions and stronger emergency preparedness. The session drew agencies including the National Health Insurance Authority, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and the NCDC, alongside partners such as the Gates Foundation, UNICEF, WHO and the World Bank.
