Globacom recorded the largest increase in internet subscribers among Nigeria’s major mobile operators in May 2026, according to industry figures.
Data from the Nigerian Communications Commission showed the country’s internet subscriber base rising from about 154.3 million in April to roughly 157 million in May, an increase of about 2.67 million users.
Globacom added approximately 1.3 million subscribers, taking its internet customer base from about 15.5 million to 16.8 million.
Airtel followed with an increase of around 1.07 million subscribers, ending May with about 55.8 million.
MTN added 382,894 subscribers to reach approximately 83.5 million, while T2, formerly 9mobile, remained at about 802,534 subscribers for a second consecutive month.
Globacom’s growth followed a nationwide network renewal and expansion programme that includes new base stations, additional fibre infrastructure and increased deployment of 4G LTE sites.
The company has also been relocating infrastructure affected by road construction and expanding capacity in urban, semi-urban and previously underserved areas.
The investments are intended to improve broadband access, network resilience and service quality as competition for data subscribers intensifies.
