Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila is expected to lead a high-level Nigerian delegation to the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada.
The delegation includes Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
Ministers and senior officials from trade, foreign affairs, interior, investment promotion, customs, immigration, export promotion, taxation and technology agencies are also expected to attend.
The conference, scheduled for August 12 to 15, 2026, will bring together government officials, investors, business leaders, financial institutions and members of the Nigerian diaspora.
Organisers said the event would focus on attracting diaspora capital, strengthening trade ties and presenting investment-ready opportunities in Nigeria.
Priority sectors include agriculture, technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, healthcare and the digital economy.
Senior Canadian political and economic figures are also expected to participate.
Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the conference was designed as an outcome-driven investment platform rather than a ceremonial gathering.
The Federal Government increasingly views Nigerians abroad as a source of capital, innovation, skills and market connections.
The conference is intended to convert part of the billions of dollars Nigeria receives annually in remittances into longer-term productive investments capable of creating jobs and supporting industrial growth.
