G100 Opposition Coalition Says Consensus Presidential Talks Are Advancing

Opposition parties operating under the G100 coalition say negotiations towards presenting a consensus presidential candidate against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election are making progress.

The coalition includes representatives of the African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peoples Redemption Party, Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party and Allied Peoples Movement.

At a strategic meeting in Abuja, the group inaugurated legal and media committees to support negotiations and build a formal framework for cooperation.

SDP National Chairman Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe said discussions were ongoing among party leaders and presidential hopefuls, and expressed confidence that a common candidate could emerge.

Names reportedly under consideration include Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Donald Duke and Adewale Adebayo, among others.

The legal committee is expected to examine constitutional, regulatory and contractual issues that could affect a coalition arrangement, while the media committee will coordinate public communication and joint messaging.

Gombe said the opposition alliance aimed to provide a credible alternative to the ruling APC and argued that economic hardship, insecurity and declining purchasing power should remain central issues in the 2027 campaign.

No formal candidate-selection method has yet been announced, meaning the coalition’s success will depend on whether competing political interests can agree on a common process and ticket.
