The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says 65 of the 69 ambassadors appointed by President Bola Tinubu have been formally accepted by their host countries, representing a 97 percent acceptance rate, with the remaining cases attributed to a declined nomination and the death of one ambassador designate.

Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the nominee for Togo, Grace Bent, declined the offer, while the ambassador designate for Algeria, Mohammed Mahmud Lele, died in April after a protracted illness, with the replacement process for both positions now underway. He said assurances have been received from two other countries whose consent remains pending that formal approval would be given in due course, adding that most accepted ambassadors have already arrived in their host countries and presented their credentials to begin their diplomatic duties.
