First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will travel to Kano for three days starting April 23, 2026, to formally launch the North-West zone edition of “Energised Commercialisation Now,” a Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation initiative designed to bridge the gap between research outputs and the marketplace.
The announcement was made at a press conference by Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya, who said the event would run until April 25 and feature a range of activities involving federal and state governments, the private sector, governors and first ladies from the North-West states, universities, polytechnics, research institutions, innovators, inventors, and manufacturers.
The programme for the first day includes the official launch by the First Lady, followed by a high-level panel discussion on federal and state energy for innovation and industrialisation, and a mini-exhibition of selected innovations. The second and third days would focus on technical evaluation clinics, an academia-industry roundtable, the consolidation of an investment-ready innovation pipeline, and a structured matchmaking session between innovators and investors, culminating in the signing of memoranda of understanding.
The commissioner said the envisioned outcomes of the engagement included the creation of a national innovation asset register capturing North-West innovations, a pipeline of commercially viable technologies ready for investment, signed investment deals and institutional agreements, stronger linkages between industry and academia, and increased intellectual property registrations.
He affirmed that Kano State was committed to using the platform to advance its transition from an import-dependent economy to a production-driven, export-oriented industrial centre.
