Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated the 2026 farming season in Niger State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to agricultural development and food security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event, held in Niger State, was attended by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, alongside Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and other government officials.
During the visit, the First Lady officially flagged off the distribution of agricultural equipment and farm inputs to farmers across the state’s 25 local government areas. The items distributed included tractors, combine harvesters, fertilisers, and other farming support materials aimed at boosting food production and enhancing mechanised agriculture.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Idris said agriculture remains a key pillar of the Tinubu administration’s economic agenda and a major contributor to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to him, President Tinubu envisions Nigeria becoming “a global agricultural powerhouse” capable of supplying quality produce to international markets while ensuring affordable and nutritious food for citizens.
He noted that Niger State has continued to position itself as a major player in the country’s agricultural transformation through investments in technology, mechanisation, value addition, and strategic partnerships.
Idris also commended the First Lady for identifying with farmers in the state, describing them as the backbone of the local economy.
As part of the visit, the First Lady was honoured with the traditional title of Soniyako Nupe by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, in recognition of her support for agriculture and women-focused initiatives in the country.
