FG Begins Reconstruction of Carter Bridge in Lagos

The Federal Government has commenced the reconstruction of the Carter Bridge in Lagos, marking a major step toward restoring one of the city’s key transport links.

The project was officially handed over to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during a flag-off ceremony held on Wednesday at the bridge site.

The event was led by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who formally launched the rehabilitation project alongside key stakeholders in the construction and transport sectors.

Authorities say the reconstruction is aimed at improving structural integrity, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing safety for commuters who rely on the bridge for daily movement across Lagos.

Carter Bridge, which connects parts of Lagos Island to the mainland, has long been identified as a critical infrastructure requiring urgent rehabilitation due to years of wear and heavy usage.

The Federal Government has not yet disclosed the full timeline or cost of the project, but officials say work will proceed in phases to minimise disruption to traffic flow.
