Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force will conduct itself professionally before, during, and after the 2027 general election.
The IGP gave the assurance after a strategic meeting with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers, where lessons from recent elections were reviewed to improve the force’s readiness for the next nationwide polls.
Speaking to journalists at the launch of The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force, authored by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga, Disu expressed confidence in the force’s preparedness.
“I give you my word. The Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make the Nigeria Police proud, and we will make Nigerians proud,” he said.
The police chief noted that recent electoral experiences had highlighted both strengths and weaknesses within the force, adding that these lessons would be applied to ensure better performance in 2027.
He also praised Okuyiga’s contribution to documenting the history of women in policing, describing the publication as an important record of institutional knowledge.
Disu revealed that the book would be distributed across police training institutions to educate younger officers about the history and evolution of the force.
The 96-year-old author, one of Nigeria’s pioneer female police officers who joined the force in 1955, described the publication as an enduring legacy that would continue to inspire future generations.
“This book launch today is an important day in my life,” she said, expressing satisfaction that her experiences would remain accessible to readers worldwide.
At the event, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, supported the project with a donation of N20 million.
