Dangote Transport has introduced a Driver Monitoring Control Room designed to track the conduct of truck drivers in real time during journeys across Nigeria.
The facility is located at the company’s transport base in Ibese, Ogun State.
Company officials said the system forms part of a wider safety programme aimed at reducing road crashes, improving driver behaviour and strengthening fleet management.
Head of Operations David Idiege said control personnel could observe drivers while vehicles were in transit and intervene when unsafe behaviour was detected.
The technology uses onboard camera systems installed across company trucks.
The cameras provide live feeds and automated alerts to the monitoring centre.
Head of Transport Control Ifeanyi Ezeala said the system was intended to prevent accidents rather than simply punish drivers after incidents occurred.
He said operators could contact drivers, provide guidance and respond quickly when risk indicators appeared.
Dangote Transport said the monitoring platform was being combined with other safety controls.
Those include speed limiters, vehicle immobilisers, facial recognition devices, journey management procedures, drug and alcohol testing, compulsory rest periods and periodic driver recertification.
The company also conducts regular training and retraining.
Officials said fatigue management remained an important part of the programme because tired drivers were more likely to make dangerous decisions.
Operational data generated by the monitoring system is also expected to improve fleet management and safety planning.
Technology partner Nova Tracks supported deployment of the onboard monitoring solution.
Dangote Transport said thousands of trucks moved raw materials and finished products across Nigeria every day, increasing the importance of consistent safety controls.
The company said it would continue investing in technology, driver welfare and training to reduce risk to employees and other road users.
