Dangote Refinery Enters Global Aviation Fuel Market with Ethiopian Airlines Deal

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has taken a significant step into the international aviation fuel market, commencing direct jet fuel supply to Ethiopian Airlines.

The landmark deal positions the refinery as a key supplier beyond Nigeria’s borders, underscoring its growing capacity to serve both domestic and international markets.

The development comes at a time of tightening global energy supply, driven by geopolitical tensions that have continued to affect fuel availability and pricing worldwide. Analysts say the agreement reflects the refinery’s readiness to compete on a global scale, particularly within the aviation fuel segment.

As one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, the Dangote facility is expected to play a crucial role in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products while strengthening its status as a net exporter.

Industry experts note that direct supply arrangements with major airlines could help improve fuel accessibility across Africa and potentially reduce operational costs for carriers that depend heavily on imports.

Beyond its commercial significance, the deal is also viewed as a boost to intra-African trade and economic integration, aligning with ongoing efforts to build stronger regional supply chains and reduce dependence on external markets.
