Arsenal Reportedly Agree $97m Deal to Sign England Defender Ezri Konsa

Premier League champions Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign England international defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for a reported fee of $97 million (Australian dollars).

The 28-year-old has been a long-standing target for Arsenal and is understood to have emerged as one of the club’s priority defensive signings ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Konsa’s versatility is believed to be a key factor behind Arsenal’s interest, with the defender capable of playing both as a centre-back and right-back.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is seeking to strengthen his defensive options following William Saliba’s injury, while Jurrien Timber is also expected to spend more time on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.

Konsa, who represented England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, is now reportedly set to move to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal prepare to defend their Premier League title.

The defender was a key part of Aston Villa’s UEFA Europa League-winning campaign last season, making 48 appearances across all competitions and scoring twice.

Konsa joined Aston Villa in 2019 and has since made almost 300 appearances for the Premier League club.

His reported move to Arsenal would provide Arteta with another experienced and versatile option at the back as the Gunners prepare for another demanding domestic and European campaign.

Konsa is expected to become Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer. The club previously made Piero Hincapié’s loan move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent before signing goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimarães.

Arsenal are scheduled to begin their Premier League title defence at home against newly promoted Coventry City on Saturday.
