Argentina Cruises Past Jordan 3-1 as Messi Nets Sixth World Cup Goal

Lionel Messi continued his historic 2026 World Cup campaign Saturday, scoring his sixth goal of the tournament as Argentina closed out group stage play with a 3-1 victory over Jordan in Arlington, Texas.

The 39-year-old forward came off the bench in the second half and wasted little time making an impact. His late strike extended his record tally to 19 career World Cup goals, the most in the competition’s history.

Argentina controlled much of the match, securing all three points to wrap up their group stage on a high note. The win sends the reigning champions into the knockout rounds with momentum, while Jordan exits the tournament following the defeat.

Messi’s six goals now put him atop the 2026 Golden Boot race as the tournament moves into the Round of 16.
