An attempt to suspend a Special Adviser to the Senate President from the All Progressives Congress in Ward 9, Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has collapsed in embarrassing fashion after a ward official filed a sworn court affidavit categorically denying that any disciplinary meeting was ever convened, alleging that his name and signature were fraudulently attached to documents he never signed.
The ward’s Ex-Officio member, Edet Ben, filed the affidavit before the High Court in Uyo, stating that no meeting was held on April 22, 2026, to deliberate on any disciplinary action against anyone, and disowning both the purported attendance list and the letter of suspension directed at party leadership at chapter and state levels. He demanded the immediate removal of his name from all related documents, a public retraction, and cessation of any use of his identity without consent, warning of immediate legal action if his demands were ignored within 24 hours.
The disputed suspension targeted Eseme Eyiboh, Special Adviser to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Media and Publicity, with a faction within the ward accusing him of anti-party activity. The allegation drew immediate and widespread criticism, with observers pointing to the apparent contradiction of penalising a figure who had recently organized grassroots support for top-level APC leaders including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno.
The grassroots political group Ward Nine New Era dismissed the suspension as malicious, baseless, and void, questioning both the legitimacy of the ward executives who initiated the action and the logic of singling out Eyiboh while other respected Esit Eket leaders who attended the same endorsement meeting, including former NDDC Managing Director Bassey Dan-Abia and former state House of Assembly Speaker Bassey Essien, faced no disciplinary proceedings whatsoever.
Political analysts described the episode as a self-defeating exercise that had transformed a disciplinary claim into a legal and political liability for its promoters, with the allegations of forgery, denial of due process, and rising internal dissent collectively undermining the credibility of those who sponsored the action.
