Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the upgraded Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Lagos, alongside newly constructed football pitches and a food distribution hub, as part of efforts to boost education, youth development, and food security.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the president commissioned the rehabilitated cluster of 36 public schools, which underwent a comprehensive overhaul under a state-led infrastructure renewal programme.
Also unveiled was the Maracana sports facility featuring 19 mini-football pitches, located near the school complex, as well as a Mid-Level Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, developed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Tinubu described the large-scale transformation of the school complex as “exceptional and remarkable,” commending the Lagos State Government for improving learning conditions and investing in human capital development.
He stressed the importance of education in driving economic growth, noting that equipping young people with skills and knowledge is critical to national progress and competitiveness.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project represents a complete redevelopment of the historic Tolu Schools Complex, originally established in 1981, transforming it into what he described as the largest integrated educational community in West Africa.
The redevelopment includes new classroom blocks, renovated buildings, science laboratories, an ICT centre, and a vocational training facility aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and practical skills.
The governor added that the Abijo Fresh Food Hub would improve access to affordable food and strengthen distribution networks across the Lekki-Ajah corridor.
Officials said the projects reflect ongoing efforts to modernise public education, promote youth engagement through sports, and enhance food security in the state.
