Makinde Criticizes Tinubu’s Saudi Pilgrimage, Promises Domestic Focus on National Challenges

Seyi Makinde, identified in the supplied campaign account as the Allied People’s Movement presidential candidate, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s reported trip to Saudi Arabia for religious observance, arguing that Nigeria’s leaders should concentrate on resolving the country’s problems at home.

Speaking at a Southeast campaign town hall in Enugu, Makinde said his proposed administration would prioritize economic recovery, security, education, poverty reduction and an improved business environment.

He maintained that prayer could be offered within Nigeria and that government should be judged by its practical response to citizens’ difficulties. The comments were presented as a reaction to a statement attributed to presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga about the president’s travel plans.

Makinde also questioned the level of public borrowing and promised to unveil a campaign manifesto on November 4, 2026. He announced a proposed partnership with Skill Reset Nigeria to train one million young people in employable skills.

His reported running mate, Lawal Daura, said the campaign intended to address the country’s economic and social challenges, while a zonal campaign official described the town hall attendance as evidence of support.

Separately, the supplied account said Tinubu departed Abuja for Makkah to perform Umrah, with plans to pray for national peace, unity and stability before returning the following week.

The account also described a departure ceremony attended by government officials and a presentation of a ceremonial cloak by the Saudi ambassador.

The reported party nomination, campaign ticket, itinerary and travel details require confirmation from official party and presidency records before publication.
