Delta Approves Retirement Age Extension for Clinical Health Workers to 65

The Delta State Government has approved an extension of the retirement age for skilled clinical health professionals in government hospitals from 60 to 65 years, while increasing the maximum length of service from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes first.

The approval was granted by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as part of efforts to address manpower shortages, retain experienced medical personnel and improve healthcare delivery across the state.

The policy covers 26 cadres of skilled clinical health professionals actively involved in providing clinical services in government hospitals across Delta State.

Under the new arrangement, eligible health professionals seeking to benefit from the extension are required to apply through their respective Chief Medical Directors six months before attaining 60 years of age or completing 35 years of service.

Applicants will also be subject to medical fitness screening by the state Ministry of Health.

The government said the extension is intended to help retain experienced clinical personnel within the public healthcare system and strengthen the delivery of medical services to residents.

However, the policy applies only to eligible clinical health professionals working in government hospitals. It excludes personnel serving in ministries and extra-ministerial departments.

The decision is expected to provide additional opportunities for experienced medical professionals to continue contributing their skills and expertise to healthcare delivery in Delta State.
