The Lagos State Government says it has upgraded its Ebola isolation facilities and is working towards laboratory test results within 24 hours as part of heightened preparedness following a reported case in Abuja.
Health Commissioner Professor Akin Abayomi said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had directed relevant agencies to maintain a high state of readiness because of frequent travel between Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory. The reported Abuja case was not independently verified in the material provided.
Abayomi said the Emergency Operations Centre had conducted simulation exercises, while training continued for health workers in public and private facilities. The state was also expanding isolation capacity and reviewing the pathway from sample collection to laboratory results.
According to the commissioner, officials were refining screening at entry points with federal partners and using digital surveillance tools to improve detection and contact tracing. A specialist committee was reviewing available evidence on Ebola treatment and vaccines.
Residents were advised to practise hand hygiene, avoid contact with the body fluids of sick individuals and contact health authorities if they had symptoms or possible exposure. The state listed emergency numbers 112 and 767, as well as 0802 316 9485 for epidemiology enquiries.
Officials urged the public to rely on verified health guidance and avoid panic or the circulation of unconfirmed reports.
