A Saudi Arabian humanitarian medical mission has begun a specialized cardiac treatment programme in Abuja, with plans to provide 108 procedures to patients requiring advanced heart care.
The campaign, organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in partnership with the Al-Balsam Association for Health Training and Development, aims to deliver 28 open-heart operations and 80 diagnostic or therapeutic catheterization procedures.
The visiting team includes specialist doctors, nurses, technicians and other personnel working with Nigerian healthcare professionals at Nizamiye and Zenith hospitals in Abuja. Organizers said the first four days of the mission were scheduled to include 75 procedures, while medical examinations and consultations were also provided.
Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, visited the medical team at Zenith Hospital and commended the cooperation between the visiting volunteers and their Nigerian counterparts.
The programme is intended to help patients who face financial or practical barriers to specialist treatment, while creating opportunities for knowledge sharing between medical professionals in both countries.
Patients are being assessed and screened before procedures. The mission forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader international medical assistance programme.
