JAMB Declares University Admission Letters Invalid, Insists on CAPS for NYSC Mobilisation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared that admission letters issued directly by universities are invalid and will not be recognised for official purposes, including mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, issued the warning while receiving a delegation from Veritas University, Abuja, on October 15, 2026.

According to Aina, only admission letters generated through JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) are legally valid, stressing that tertiary institutions lack the statutory authority to issue admission letters independently.

He described the practice by some institutions as improper and urged universities to stop issuing admission documents outside the CAPS platform.

The registrar further noted that the Federal Ministry of Education had directed that all admissions into tertiary institutions must be processed through CAPS, warning that admissions conducted outside the system are null and void.

Aina advised candidates to ensure they obtain authentic JAMB admission letters after accepting admission through CAPS to avoid complications with NYSC mobilisation and other official processes.
