Senator Buba Denies Links to Bandits, Describes Viral Videos as Fabricated

Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has denied allegations linking him to banditry, describing viral videos purportedly showing bandit leaders visiting his residence in Bauchi as fabricated and manipulated.

Buba, who chairs the Senate Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry and is the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate in Bauchi State, said a fact-check of the videos showed that they were two unrelated clips edited together to create a false narrative.

In a statement titled, “Setting the Record Straight: My Response to Fabricated Videos, False Allegations and a Sustained Campaign of Disinformation,” the senator said the first video featured Hajj returnees from Kaduna who visited his residence in 2023, while the second showed different individuals displaying passports.

He noted that the people in the two clips spoke different languages, with those in the first video speaking Fulfulde and those in the second speaking English.

Buba described the allegations as “false” and “malicious”, alleging that they were part of a coordinated campaign motivated by financial and partisan interests.

He challenged anyone with credible evidence of wrongdoing against him to present it to the appropriate authorities, insisting that he had nothing to hide and would welcome any legitimate investigation.

The senator also urged his supporters to remain calm and focused, particularly as the 2027 elections approach.

“Let us remain calm, disciplined and committed to the democratic process,” he said.

Buba explained that he initially chose not to respond to the allegations because of the sensitive nature of his former position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence.

He said national security responsibilities often require discretion, noting that publicly disclosing certain operational successes could expose sources, endanger individuals and communities, or compromise ongoing security interventions.

He maintained that his focus remains on offering Bauchi State what he described as a credible political alternative centred on service, development and improved security.
