Mohammed Idris Backs Bago for Second Term, Urges Support for Tinubu

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has thrown his weight behind the second-term bid of Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, putting to rest speculations over his position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Idris made his position known during a solidarity visit to Governor Bago in Minna last weekend, where he commended the administration’s development initiatives and declared that the governor deserved continuity in office based on his performance.

The minister was in Minna to commiserate with the family of the late Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Aminu Yussuf, before visiting the governor.

Idris said Bago had demonstrated “a strong commitment to transforming Niger State through his administration’s New Niger Agenda,” adding that the achievements recorded since the inception of the administration provided a basis for seeking another term.

According to him, Bago’s re-election would enable the administration to consolidate ongoing projects, deepen its development programmes and build on gains recorded across various sectors of the state.

The minister also urged Nigerians and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying continuity was necessary to consolidate the gains of the Federal Government’s reform agenda.

Idris said the programmes and reforms being implemented under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda were aimed at repositioning the economy and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

He stressed that the political objectives of the 2027 elections went beyond individual ambitions, urging the APC to maintain a united front at both the national and state levels.

Bago, in his response, expressed appreciation to the minister for the visit and the confidence reposed in his administration.

The governor reiterated his commitment to promoting the welfare and wellbeing of the people of Niger State, assuring that his administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes designed to improve citizens’ quality of life.
