President Bola Tinubu has renewed calls for national unity and religious harmony as Nigeria prepares to host an international conference focused on peace, security and development.
Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris said the government considered peaceful coexistence essential to Nigeria’s stability and prosperity.
The conference is being convened in Abuja by the Muslim World League in collaboration with Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah.
Religious leaders and other stakeholders are expected to discuss how dialogue and cooperation can strengthen security and social stability.
Idris said the gathering came at a time when Nigeria was strengthening its security architecture while pursuing economic and social reforms.
He urged citizens to rise above religious, ethnic and political differences that could worsen insecurity.
The minister said Nigeria’s size and regional influence gave it a responsibility to promote stability beyond its borders.
He also described cooperation among different faith communities as an important part of the country’s response to violence and extremism.
The government said unity and tolerance would remain central to efforts to build a more secure nation.
