The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has expressed concern among Osun State’s traditional rulers over escalating political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election, during a visit by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to his palace.
The Ooni urged Amupitan to ensure a free and fair process, noting that government has provided the commission with adequate support to operate independently. Amupitan, in turn, described the Osun poll as an important rehearsal for the 2027 general election, noting that the state has more than 2.3 million registered voters across 3,763 polling units.
He appealed to traditional rulers to encourage political actors to embrace peaceful conduct, stating that no election is worth the loss of a single life, and warned against vote buying and the growing risk of artificial intelligence being used to spread disinformation or fabricate results.
