Spain booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over France in their semi-final clash, ending Les Bleus’ hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final.

La Roja took the lead in the 22nd minute through Mikel Oyarzabal, who calmly converted from the penalty spot after teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was fouled inside the box by Lucas Digne.

The goal, Oyarzabal’s fifth of the tournament, handed Spain a deserved advantage as they dominated large spells of the first half.

France attempted to respond after the break but found it difficult to break down Spain’s organised defence. The Spaniards extended their lead in the 58th minute when Dani Olmo threaded a precise pass to Pedro Porro, who finished clinically to make it 2-0.

Despite fielding a star-studded attack led by captain Kylian Mbappé, France struggled to create clear scoring opportunities as Spain controlled possession and dictated the tempo of the match.

Didier Deschamps’ side pushed for a way back into the contest, but Spain remained composed and disciplined, comfortably seeing out the victory to secure their place in the final.

The win sends the European champions into Sunday’s World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina.

France, meanwhile, will turn their attention to the third-place playoff as their quest for another World Cup title comes to an end.
