Mutfwang Recommits to Plateau Peace as Dariye Committee Submits Report

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has restated his commitment to lasting peace through inclusive dialogue and stronger collaboration with the federal government, while receiving a strategic report from a committee led by former governor Joshua Dariye.

The committee was set up after the state’s recent engagement with President Tinubu. Mutfwang described the report as a crucial roadmap for addressing Plateau’s security and socio-political challenges, saying the President had shown genuine concern and issued clear directives to intensify peace efforts.

He said misinterpretations surrounding the presidential engagement had made it necessary to set up the committee to provide clarity, commended traditional, political and religious leaders for sustaining dialogue, and announced that the report would be presented to a broader stakeholders’ assembly.

Dariye said the committee’s work touched directly on community safety and long-term stability, and that the two-volume report highlighted the multidimensional nature of the state’s challenges and gaps in past peace initiatives.

He said the report recommended a recovery framework covering protection of vulnerable communities, support for displaced persons, rebuilding of affected areas and stronger interfaith and traditional mediation, and stressed the need for strategic communication to project Plateau as a state defined by resilience and hospitality.
