Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke has said synergy among the armed forces is indispensable to success in modern military operations, urging future commanders to embrace strategic leadership, jointness and innovation.
Delivering a lecture to participants of Air War Course 12/2026 at the Air Force War College in Makurdi, Aneke said today’s complex security environment demanded leaders with foresight, adaptability and a collaborative mindset. The course drew senior officers from the Nigerian services and allied officers from Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana and Morocco.
He said effective leadership went beyond command authority to inspiring personnel and translating national objectives into operational success, and that integrating airpower with surface forces enhanced effectiveness and remained central to addressing contemporary threats.
Separately, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty, with Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu calling for prayers for the armed forces and national leaders amid evolving security challenges.
Speaking through a representative at an inter-denominational service marking the Army’s 163rd anniversary, the COAS described the occasion as a moment to honor fallen and serving heroes and renew dedication to national service, noting that the Army had adapted to emerging threats throughout its history.
